1937 Jaguar SS

SS 1.5 Saloon Right hand Drive manual 1937 Black with Black leather. This car is a rare survivor of the first model to wear the Jaguar name, one of only 42 1½ litre saloons remaining worldwide. Post WWII the SS brand name was discarded, and Jaguar became the new brand rather than the model's name. This 1937 SS Jaguar 1½ litre saloon was first registered on 17th April 1937. The original brown buff logbook has remained with the car since 1937; an original 1937 SS 1½ litre Instruction Manual accompanies the car along with an original Spare Parts Catalogue. The car was first registered to the motor dealership Martin & Chillingworth Ltd in Hampshire, UK. The original Martin and Chillingworth dealer plaque is still on the dashboard, indicating it was in fact their original demonstration model. Martin & Chillingworth sold the Jaguar on 29th April 1937 to a veterinarian by the name of John H Addis who resided at Albion House in Newbury, Berkshire. Albion House was still home to a veterinarian practice - the Donnington Grove Veterinary Group - until recently. The second registered owner was Mr Albert Edward Brindley who resided at 16 Cheap St, Newbury; Mr Brindleys family owned a fish and chip shop. Remarkably 16 Cheap St, Newbury is still a fish and chip shop today. The car stayed in the same Berkshire town of Newbury for four and a half decades. In 1982 the vehicle was sold and left Newbury. It resided from 1982 with a single owner Mr Terry Walsh of Hatfield, Hertfordshire before being sold again in 2014 to Mr Guy Hawkyard of York. Grant Pierce, the fifth owner, bought the car in 2017 and shipped it from the UK to Perth where improvements have been constantly made to present the car to high standard and to retain originality. The car retains its original 1937 cast aluminium registration plates being AMO 77, original factory supplied engine, numerous original tools, original black leather upholstery and is still in its factory exterior colour of Black. It is currently registered in Western Australia with AMO77 plates. Jaguar Magazine (Australia) featured this car in Edition #206 where renowned Jaguar expert Les Hughes described it as very likely the best original car of the model surviving.
